Recital Reminders for 7th and 8th Graders

THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR RECITAL:

Saturday at Geneseo High School

  1. Dress up! Girls wear nice pants and top, dresses, or skirts.  Guys wear nice pants and top, tie if you would like, and nice shoes.
  2. Homeroom – The main gym is your homeroom – place to put your things.
  3. Warm-up Room – English hallway, when enter by office, turn left and walk almost to the end of the building, the English hallway is on your right.  There will be signs and arrows and people to help.
  4. Music – the crate with solo music book in will be on a table right across from the main office.  It will be labeled: GMS Vocal.  You must give the judge the original copy of your solo.  Be certain to return the solo book and envelope to the crate immediately after your performance – unless there are special directions for you on the envelope.
  5. Be pleasant – make no excuses…even if you are ill.  Smile at the judge, say thank you, be quiet in the room so the judge can concentrate.
  6. Time – warm-up and get to your performance room early.  We need to stay on time in all performance areas.
  7. Results – they will be posted in the cafeteria.  Be patient!  We will do our best to get them recorded as soon as possible.
  8. Listen to other events – All performers need an audience.  Be supportive of your fellow choir members and instrumentalists.  Support one another.
  9. Remember – We will be recognizing all those students who are nominated by the judges as having performed outstanding in both ensemble and solo work.
  10. Phone number – To reach a main office in the high school, please call 945-0315

ATTENTION PARENTS!!

Recital is quickly approaching for 7th and 8th grade students.  This event provides excellent practice and support as the students prepare for contest.

THIS WONDERFUL EVENT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE HELP OF GPAC… AND THEY WOULD LOVE YOU TO JOIN IN HELPING THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

If you would be willing to work at the information table or collect scores from judges throughout the day, please contact Carla Stevens at 945-4822.   These shifts will be short and allow you to still see your son or daughter perform.

Thank you!

Recital Time Requests

Parents and Students,

If you have other commitments on the day of Recital (Saturday, February 27th), you have until this Friday to get me a time preference.  You have one of three options: first performance of the day, morning audition time, afternoon audition time.

This preference just needs to be communicated to me.  So students can let me know at school or parents should call or e-mail.

Any requests made after this Friday will most likely not be accommodated.

Thank you!

Moving Forward (Lion King alternate plans)

Hello Students and Parents,

Click here to see this in document form.

We regret that we were not able to see Lion King on Thursday, but the Civic Center in Des Moines is able to fully refund the ticket price.  Because of this, we were able to make different arrangements and are very excited about this new opportunity available for all students and chaperones that were planning on attending Lion King.

Blue Man Group in Chicago!

“Blue Man Group is best known for their wildly popular theatrical shows and concerts which combine music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to produce a totally unique form of entertainment. The blissful party atmosphere created at their live events has become the trademark of a Blue Man Group experience.”     Please visit their website: http://www.blueman.com/about.

We will provide Charter bus transportation to this show on Friday, March 19th.  We will also provide a lunch for those attending before leaving Geneseo at 12:30pm that day – the show time is 4:00pm.  Since Blue Man Group is in Chicago and in such high demand; the total ticket price is $47.00.  We are able to apply the $40 you paid for Lion King toward this ticket purchase, but will need another $7 in order to purchase the Blue Man Group tickets.  We know this will be an excellent opportunity for the students and well worth the extra ticket fee.  After the 4:00pm show, we will head back to Geneseo and return around 9pm that evening.  We ask that students pack a dinner that they can eat on the bus.

We would like all students to join on us on this trip, but understand if it is not feasible for some reason.  If this is the case, we are able to refund the $40 you put toward the Lion King trip.

Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

Mr. Versluis (jversluis@dist228.org) and Miss Abel (mabel@dist228.org)

Lion King Trip Cancelled

Dear Parents and Students,
Due to expected bad weather here and west of here, we feel in the best interest of your child to cancel the Lion King Trip.  Mr. Versluis and myself will work with the Civic Center to try and reschedule this trip if possible. There is no refund for the show tickets, but we will work with the office on how to refund the money for dinner.

Thank you!

Lion King Update

Dear Parents,

As of now, as long as we have school tomorrow we are planning as normal to go on the trip to see Lion King in Des Moines, Iowa. Obviously if there is no school then we will not go on the trip. If we do not go on the trip, there are no refunds, as the show will still go on. Therefore, if you would still like to take your child to Des Moines to see the show tomorrow, you may contact Mr. Versluis at 309-738-0595 to pick up your child’s ticket at school tomorrow morning.

NOTICE: We have been in contact with the Civic Center this morning and have tried getting in touch with this afternoon concerning the show tomorrow.  We will keep communicating via email with updates.  Also, please keep checking our “Blogs” as we will post information there as well.

Any questions please contact Mr. Versluis at jversluis@dist228.org or Miss Abel atmabel@dist228.org as that would be the quickest way to get a hold of you and us.

Thank you,

John Versluis & Marie Abel
