As you know your child has been learning sight words this year. Starting Tuesday, February 21 we will begin our Sight Word Challenge! Your child will be tested on all the sight words they have learned so far. If they are able to read all the words they will earn a prize from the Challenge Box! If they are unable to read all of the words they will continue to have as many opportunities as they need to try! They will have from Tuesday, February 21 until Friday, March 16. Words that we learn in the next month students will not be tested on, only the ones on the list. After March 16th, we will try another challenge.
Attached is a list of all the words they will be tested on. Please go over these words with your child. Our goal is to have everyone in the class complete this challenge. Please encourage your child to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! They may come to me when they feel they are ready to try our Sight Word Challenge.
Thanks for your support!
Mrs. Dewey

Will you be our Valentine?
Jewel had her babies this morning!! So far 2 cubs are confirmed and she may have possibly have had a 3rd! How exciting! Her cubs were born just in time for us to start our unit on bears and hibernation tomorrow!! See you in the morning my kindergarten friends!
We are LOVING every moment we get to check on Jewel! Mrs. Dewey always has her up on the screen when the kids walk in in the morning and we always check on her before we leave school. If we have a quick second before lunch we like to check on her then too. We have had the most luck with seeing her move when we check on her before lunch….but today was a different story!!! As we were eating snack this afternoon she was VERY active!! We got to see her sit up, clean herself, eat, and make lots of cool bear noises!! According to the website she should be having her babies any day!! We are very excited to meet them!! Next week we are going to talk about bears and hibernation so we will be doing a lot of activities involving Jewel!! If you get a chance to check on Jewel at night while at home, please post a comment (your child can help you type it and tell you what to say) and share with everyone was Jewel was doing!! We will try to check our blog and share our findings! Enjoy the pictures below of our time looking at Jewel!
Today we met Jewel the Bear. She is a 3 yr old black bear who lives in MN. We will be checking on her daily and thought you would like to check her out at home! She should be having her babies any day now!

We just finished with the 1st week of guided reading. I would like to say how PROUD I am of everyone! I am so impressed with how hard all of my readers are doing! Please continue to read every night with your child. Please help your child be responsible with his/her book and return it daily. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me!
I am SO proud of all the kindergartners!! They did such a wonderful job with the Christmas program! Brings a tear to my eye every year to hear their beautiful voices!
