We all scream for ice cream!

Posted by chanson on Nov 15, 2009 in Just Because

Friday we made ice cream in class, but some of you complained that the ice cream didn’t have the same creamy taste and texture that the ice cream you buy in the store has, so here is an alternative recipe.  Let me know how it turns out and tastes by commenting on this post!  Have fun!  Also for all of you who babysit, this is an excellent activity to do with those little tykes.

Ice Cream in a Baggie

Put the following in a sandwich-size Zip-Loc bag and zip closed:

  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup half and half
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Put the following in a gallon sized Zip-Loc bag and zip closed

  • 2 Tablespoons rock salt
  • The filled and zipped sandwich bag
  • Enough ice to make ¾ full

Shake and roll the filled bag until frozen (about 15-20 minutes)

Don’t forget to squeeze out all of the excess air…the air acts as an insulator and slows the process.

Ooooh Pretty Colors!

Posted by chanson on Sep 26, 2009 in Classroom Activities

Friday we completed a lab activity in which the students investigated the proper handling and measuring and handling of liquids in the classroom.  One group was so moved by the results that they exclaimed, “Oh I want a picture!”  So to those who know who they are (from 5th period), here are your pretty colors.

Hope you are having a great weekend.  Mrs. Hanson
