One-Handed Catch by M.J. Auch
We invite all community members to join us in reading One-Handed Catch by M.J. Auch between now and March 27. 2012.

2012 GMS On the Same Page selection
What is this book about?
It’s July 4, 1946, and Norm is eleven years old. A tragic accident leads to the amputation of his left hand, and his life is forever changed. How will Norm, his family, his teachers, and his friends all react to this change? What will happen to his dreams of playing baseball? Read the book to find out!
How can you get a copy of the book?:
Students will be presenting book talks at many area organizations. If your organization would like to schedule a book talk, please contact Brian Hofer (bhofer@dist228.org). Free copies will also be placed around Geneseo or can be picked up from the GMS office during regular school hours beginning January 9, 2012. We ask that when you have finished reading your copy, you pass it on to another potential reader.
How can you get involved?
- Read the book.
- Comment on the book at the Discussion link to the right.
- Attend our culminating presentation by the Wounded Warriors
Wounded Warriors Projects for March 27
The students were motivated by how Norm faces adversity in this book. As a culminating project, we have invited some special guest speakers who have faced similar adversity. Many soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan have returned as amputees. Some of these wounded veterans play on the Wounded Warriors softball team.
Two of these athletes (Kyle Earl and Greg Reynolds) will be visiting GMS on March 27 to share their experiences with our students. The public is welcome to attend these events. There will be three presentations during the school day at GMS: 8:43 a.m., 10:18 a.m., 1:38 p.m.
At 5:00 p.m. there will be a fundraiser meal for the Wounded Warriors Softball Team in the GMS cafeteria. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Geneseo Middle School office beginning February 1 for $5.00. Kids under 5 eat free. At 6:30 p.m., there will be one more Wounded Warrior presentation in the gym.
